Jean Taylor, Graham County’s oldest Extension volunteer, shows off what’s probably the tallest field corn in the county. An extremely old variety that no one can identify, this corn was handed down from Charlie Garland years ago. It boasts stalks averaging 15 – 20 feet in height and ears about 16 inches in length. Jean says she plans to have her corn ground for bread later this fall. In addition to her corn, Jean is growing pumpkins, sweet potatoes, cabbage, pepper, clay peas, pole beans, tomatoes and greens. She’s still showing us how it’s done!
At 87, Jean is still an avid gardener and member of the Extension Advisory Leadership Committee. She was a 4-H club leader for a number of years and continues to be a tremendous advocate for Extension and its programs. Thank you Jean for all you do for our community!
