Second Annual Giant Pumpkin Contest in the Books!

Seven contestants and many on-lookers braved the cold weather at the Graham County Farmer’s Market Saturday, October 7th to see who would walk away with bragging rights for the largest pumpkin grown in the county.  In the youth division, Maysa McGuire was the winner for the second year in a row with her pumpkin weighing 146 pounds.  Second and third place went to Kinlyn Powell and Mykayla McGuire with pumpkins weighing 114.35 and 104.7 pounds respectively.  Honorable mentions go to Lawrence Powell with a pumpkin weighing 88.9 pounds.

The adult division winners were Raymond Norton, with a pumpkin weighing 179.45 pounds, and Angela and Jim McGuire with pumpkins weighing 91.6 and 85.8 pounds respectively.

In addition to ribbons, first place contestants in each division received $100 gift cards, second place contestants received $50 gift cards, and third place contestants received $25 gift cards.

Congratulations to everyone who participated!  Remember, it’s never too early to start thinking about next year!  Seeds will again be available from the N.C. Cooperative Extension – Graham County Center in April.
