Cherokee and Graham County Centers have teamed together to offer a series of Farm School educational programs  that will help farmers, homeowners, gardeners and youth learn more about farming, agriculture and rural living in our area.  Most workshops listed below are free to anyone who would like to register.  However, there is a charge for the grafting workshop to help cover the cost of the materials.  If you have any questions about our programs, feel free to contact us.

Why Is My Plant Dying?

Learn How to Use Diagnostic Tools Available to you through N.C. Cooperative Extension to determine problems With Plants and Animals.  When you complete the course you will know the basics of soil sampling, how to submit a digital picture of a problem plant to the diagnostic lab from the comfort of your home, and delivering an animal to the diagnostic lab in Asheville.  Register 

Pruning For Healthy Fruit Trees

Pruning fruit trees and other fruit crops is essential for the health and success of a productive harvest.  This workshop will focus on apple trees.  When you complete the demonstration you will know tools needed for pruning, how to make decisions about which limbs to remove, and the time of year pruning should occur.  This workshop will be held in Graham County only. We will meet at the Graham County Center at 1:30 for the classroom portion of the workshop and then carpool to the site of the demonstration. Register

FAMACHA

Parasites can be a discouraging and devastating problem when tending small ruminants.  If you’ve had problems in the past or are experiencing problems now, please plan to join us for this informative workshop.  Participating individuals will learn how to identify parasite problems in the herd, learn management techniques that reduce parasite load, and be trained in using the FAMACHA method of detecting anemia in small ruminants.
