2025 Graham County 4-H Poultry Project

This program opportunity is available to all Graham County youth ages 5-18, who are interested in raising and showing poultry. Members of the Graham County 4-H Poultry Club will complete a poultry project, giving youth the opportunity to…

  • Raise 6 chicks
  • Participate in educational workshops designed to educate youth on raising poultry & animal husbandry
  • Attend Poultry Showmanship Clinic
  • Attend the annual Graham County 4-H Poultry Processing Demonstration (youth learn about anatomy & processing birds for consumption). *attendance is not required, but return of one bird for processing demonstration IS REQUIRED.
  • Compete in the annual Graham County 4-H Poultry Show

All Youth Participants receive a chick starter kit, along with 6 chicks, to help them begin their projects. Kits contain one heat lamp with heat bulb, one gallon bag of chick starter feed, one chick feeder, one chick waterer, and a small bag of pine shavings for bedding. Equipment must be returned at the annual poultry show. As the chicks grow, participants will be responsible for providing additional equipment, housing, supplies, & water. All of these requirements will be addressed during orientation/educational workshops.

Mandatory Program Dates

Attendance is mandatory at program orientation, chick pick-up, showmanship clinic, poultry drop-off, and the annual poultry show. Youth must attend at least 6 of the 9 educational workshops/check-ins. Youth are strongly encouraged to attend ALL in-person events.

  • March 27, 2025 (5-6 p.m.) – Housing/Predator Workshop

  • April 24, 2025 (5-6 p.m.) – Best Management Practices/Poultry Problems Workshop
  • May 1, 2025 (5-6 p.m.) – Egg Production Workshop
  • May 22, 2025 (5-6 p.m.) – Zoom check-in
  • June 5, 2025 (5-6 p.m.) – Show & Tell
  • June 26, 2025 (5-6 p.m.) – Showmanship Clinic***
  • July 24, 2025 (5-6 p.m.) – Zoom check-in
  • August 21, 2025 (5-6 p.m.) – Poultry Nutrition/FUN & GAMES
  • August 28, 2025 (5-6 p.m.) – Zoom check-in (last one before show)
  • September 5, 2025 (5-6 p.m.) – Poultry Drop-Off (for processing demonstration)***
  • September 6, 2025 (12 p.m.) – 2025 Graham County 4-H Poultry Project Show***

To participate in the 2025 Graham County 4-H Poultry Project, youth must complete ALL steps outlined below no later than February 28, 2025:

STEP 1: Participants MUST be registered and  approved in 4-H Online2.0 BEFORE registering for the Graham County 4-H Poultry Project.

Enroll in the North Carolina 4-H program through the 4-H Online2.0 Enrollment System.

Family Enrollment Instructions

STEP 2: Complete registration for 2025 Graham County 4-H Poultry Project form.

  • Option 1– Register via Google Form
  • Option 2– Stop by N.C. Cooperative Extension – Graham County Center & fill out a paper registration form. Located 39 S Main Street – Robbinsville, NC 28771.

STEP 3: Pay registration fee for 2025 Graham County 4-H Poultry Project.

  • Option 1– Mail Cash/Check payable to Graham County 4-H.
  • Option 2– Stop by N.C. Cooperative Extension – Graham County Center & pay with Cash/Check payable to Graham County 4-H.
