Collapse ▲Are you a pumpkin enthusiast? If so, you’ll for sure want to plan on visiting the Graham County Farmer’s Market on Saturday, September 24 to catch a glimpse of Graham County’s first annual giant pumpkin contest! Pumpkin grower’s from all over the county are invited to bring their giant pumpkin to compete for cash prizes. The first place winner will receive $300, while second and third places will receive $200 and $100 respectively. Pumpkins must have been grown in Graham County to enter. Weigh-in will begin at 11:00 A.M.
In addition, pumpkin pie lover’s will want to visit the Cooperative Extension booth for a free sample of homemade pumpkin pie featuring the Cherokee Tan pumpkin. This rare variety was one of the first known pumpkins to be grown in the area and was reportedly introduced by the Cherokee Indians living in the area. It’s a unique and excellent-tasting pumpkin. You’ll definitely want to give it a try! The Graham County Farmer’s Market is located in the parking lot next to the Graham County Public Library.
